Nomination Deadline Sep 30, 2008

 
It is that time in the Rotary year when we look to the future leadership in District 5040, by calling for nominations from clubs in our District for the position of District Governor for the 2011 - 2012 Rotary year. The successful nominee will become the DGND (District Governor Nominee Designate) for the remainder of the 2008-2009 Rotary Year.

The qualifications for a Rotarian to be nominated are as for "Governor Nominee" and set out in Section 2 pages 31-33 of the 2007 Manual of Procedure. They include:

  • The candidate must be a Rotarian in good standing of a functioning club in the District which has no outstanding indebtedness to Rotary International or to the District, and must have served as president of a club for a full term.
  • The candidate must demonstrate willingness, commitment, and ability, physical and otherwise to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office of governor.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties and responsibilities of governor as prescribed in the bylaws of Rotary International.
  • At the time of taking office, the candidate must have been a Rotarian of one or more clubs for at least seven years and have served a full term as a Club President.
The Manual of Procedure states that a District Governor is nominated by the clubs in a district and elected by the Rotary International convention.
  • On or before October 1 of the second year prior to the year in which it is anticipated a District Governor.... shall assume office, the President of a club wishing to place the name of one of its members in nomination shall file with the chair of the nominating committee and the District Governor a resolution of the club, adopted at a regular meeting of the club naming such candidate and certifying that the candidate meets the qualifications for District Governor.
  • The club resolution shall be accompanied by a current photograph of the candidate and a resume setting out both Rotary service and their personal background.

The District Nominating Committee is now calling for nominations from District 5040 Rotary clubs for the position of Governor, 2011 - 2012. Full details of the Nomination procedure will be mailed to Presidents and Secretaries in early August.

Nomination timetable:

  • Nomination submissions: August/September 2008
  • Nominations close: 30th September 2008
  • Interviews: mid-October, 2008
  • Candidate announced:1st November
  • Challenge period to 15th November
  • Candidate confirmed as DGND, or challenge process commenced: 15th November
